New Electronic Filing Mandate
IRS mandates electronic filing of 10 or more information returns. The new threshold is effective for information returns beginning tax year 2023. FIRE TCC holders who submitted their TCC
application prior to September 26, 2021, must complete and submit a new application and verify their identity through ID.me, an IRS provider of sign-in services.
You can only paper file information returns to the IRS if you have 10 or fewer aggregate returns to file. If you have more than 10 information returns of any one type
(such as Forms 1099, W-2, or 1098), the IRS mandates electronic filing instead of paper filing.
More companies are moving to third party efiling solutions due to this new threshold and efiling requirements. Contact 1099FIRE at (480) 706-6474 for more information
on outsourcing solution.
Original, Corrections, Prior Years
Not a problem. Our software and outsourcing services are capable of meeting your needs. Print and electronically file originals or corrections for current or prior tax years.
About SSA Form W-2
Form W-2, also known as the Wage and Tax Statement, is a form that employers are required to send to their employees and the IRS at the end of each year. It reports
an employee's annual wages and the taxes withheld from their paycheck. The information on this form is essential for employees to file their tax returns, as it reflects
key financial details for the year.
Who Receives Form W-2: Any individual who has worked as an employee and received wages from an employer during the tax year. All employees must receive
a Form W-2 if they had taxes withheld from their paycheck.
Who Sends Form W-2: Every employer is responsible for sending Form W-2 to each of their employees and filing it with the Social Security Administration.
Purpose: The purpose of Form W-2 is to show the employee’s total taxable wages, tips, and other compensation for the year and
detail the amounts withheld for federal, state, Social Security, and Medicare taxes. Employees use the information on their W-2 to file their federal and state income
tax returns, ensuring their income and tax withholdings are accurately reported.
Due Date: January 31 is the due date for all things related to the W-2. Employers must furnish Copies B, C, and 2 to the employee by January 31. You can
give Copies B, C, and 2 to the employee in person, send it by mail or convert to PDF and e-mail. January 31 is the deadline to file W-2s using Business Services Online
or to submit paper Form W-2. If this date falls on a Saturday or Sunday, the deadline is the next business day.
Electronic Filing/Accuwage...
AccuWage is an free, online internet application developed by the Social Security Administration (SSA) that lets you test EFW2 (W-2 Wage and Tax Statement) and EFW2C
(W-2C Corrected Wage and Tax Statement) wage files for format correctness before submitting them to SSA. If the file tests successfully, you can then securely upload
wage information to SSA.
Our W-2 software creates files in the format developed in SSA Pub. No. 42-007, Specifications for Filing Forms W-2 Electronically (EFW2) . The system is updated each
year to reflect the format changes that are made by the IRS. You can prepare EFW2 or EFW2C wage files, test through Accuwage and then upload using Business Services Online.
